I finally made it out to start the ski season after battling a cold/bronchitis for 3 weeks. Given the little snow we have I think the trails are in relatively good condition out at Shannondale. No tracks set as yet but Dave has packed what is there quite well. I was able to skate ski 7 km of trails that normally are tracked! Wish I had brought my longer poles. There were only a few ‘windblown’ spots but otherwise little dirt to hamper skiing. Good early season skiing gets those ankles in shape without a track. I suggest you ‘hit the trails’. See you out there – except for next week when
I will be snorkeling with the turltes in the Carribean !

I will echo this endorsement of ski conditions at Shannondale. Well it may be an understatement to say that southern Manitoba has not been blessed by the snow gods this winter perhaps all David’s dancing has had some effect on his little area. I had a great ski on the Blue Trail this morning and while I wouldn’t recommend that you take out your brand new $800 racing skis just yet, if you watch where you are going it is easy to avoid the few rocks and bare spots that might be showing. The blue trail is wide enough for skating but classic skiers would enjoy it as well, keeping in mind that it hasn’t been track set yet.
